Belly photo Friday – 37 weeks!

If you ever wondered what I might look like with a watermelon shoved under my shirt…

Bam! There it is. Now that we are full term the boy is just busy putting on weight, practicing breathing, swallowing and blinking, and preparing for the big day.

We went out to walk a few holes with Zach at the golf course this evening. He is trying to get in as many rounds as possible before the baby arrives. Tomorrow he will be playing 36 holes as a send out to one of his golf buddies who has a 3 month old and ending his club membership. The other golf buddy also has a pregnant wife so I think they all feel that their Saturdays of all day golfing are numbered.

36 weeks pregnant and a bunch of belly photos.

We’ve come a long way and now we are almost there.

Along with throwing me a fantastic shower last weekend, my BFF took some maternity shots of me, Zach, and the bump. She sent me a preview of the photos and they are great. I am excited to see more. I wanted to have these so that someday our kid could look back and see what we were like and how happy we were waiting for him. Thanks to my friend and her husband we have some amazing pictures to remember this whole journey. They are my favorite photographers in Omaha because of their amazing work. You should check out their latest work at their blog.

We have come from this:

– I thought I was huge at this point. Seriously. I was 19 weeks, two days, and I couldn’t understand why people were not stopping me on the street to rub my belly –

to this:

I like how my belly looks like a glowing egg.

From the day we found out (snapshot courtesy of the then shocked and excited dad-to-be):

to this:

Wow. This baby has been working hard to grow so much in such a short time.  Now that we’ve gotten this far it is hard for me to comprehend how fast this experience has gone. Yes, I want to meet our baby, but I can’t wrap my mind around how soon this part of my life will be finished. I only have a few more weeks to rest my hand on his little rump under my skin and imagine how he is all curled up. I only have a little while left to feel him wake up and roll around to get closer to the sound of his dad’s voice.

Don’t think I am delirious with pregnancy hormones or suffering from heat stroke. I am aware that it is July, that  it is hot, and that I am having a hard time expanding my lungs around my son’s growing body parts. I dream of again one day wearing a shirt that doesn’t either sneakily ride up to reveal the bottom of my massive belly or instead make me look like a tent with a head. But this has been a strange, magical experience and when it is done I will never have this wonderment of a first-time pregnancy again.

I also have this feeling that from now on my life is going to be filled with weeks that go by too fast and moments that I want to stay in forever because I know how soon they will all be memories. It will be quite a few years, I imagine, before Zach and I leisurely sit on the couch knowing we really have nothing we need to be doing.

So for now we continue to wait, to feather our nest, and to get in as many rounds of golf as we can.

34 weeks and a belly photo!

Today we are at 34 weeks and 1 day. Incredible. Thursday at Goodcents the guy making my sandwich asked me how many weeks I had left and after I used my fingers to count it off, I realized it is only 6 weeks until the due date. Only 6 weeks! I can’t believe it.

I’m feeling great and the little guy still seems to be growing right on schedule which means he is about the size of a pineapple. At our first childbirth class the instructor suggested eating something sugary or drinking cold water to get a quick reaction from the baby if I haven’t felt him move in awhile. This definitely works, but he still is moving around pretty regularly and intensely.

In other news, I no longer seem to have ankle bones, but at this point they seem overrated. Who is looking at my feet when my belly is the first thing through every doorway?

And, in more important other news, our friends had their little girl yesterday! We are so happy for them and excited to introduce our two little babies some day soon.

Last night was the rehearsal for my brother-in-law’s wedding which is today! They are excited and so are we. We got to see a bunch of Zach’s family Thursday night and spent most of the day with them yesterday too. Zach’s lovely aunts had a baby shower for me which was so much fun and a great opportunity to sit around and laugh with the ladies in Zach’s family. The last time we saw many of them was at our wedding nearly four years ago so this wedding weekend is a great reunion for everyone.

I’m looking forward to the wedding tonight!

As promised…

a 32 week belly photo! Here I am trying to find where my hips used to be.

And here I am enjoying a mango fruit bar at the Omaha Summer Arts Festival. I went down to look around this afternoon with my BFF and her family before heading back to KC.

And here is a sneak attack photo my friend’s husband took of the belly on its own.

30 weeks and a baby shower!

Here I am at 30 weeks! Can it really have been that long?

You can’t really see the definition of the bump from this angle, but I think it is funny that I don’t have a waist.

My mother-in-law had some friends and family over for a baby shower for me and the boy last weekend. My sister-in-law planned some games including identifying the type of candy bar melted in a diaper, a game that is actually hilarious especially when people start sniffing the diapers to get a better idea of which candy bar to guess.  I had a great time and the little guy got some yummy snacks and a bunch of sweet little gifts.

The cookies – rattles, onsies, bottles,

and of course Jayhawks:

The gifts:

This super cute monkey is what I think I will use to chart the growth of our little guy in his month to month pictures. So get used to seeing it!

My mom knitted these precious little booties that I just want to put on a shelf and look at.

And our little guy got all kinds of other goodies – books, toys, diapers, bath products, and clothes.

My mother-in-law also got us our stroller – the BOB – and I can’t wait to see it all put together. Zach is reserving this project for an upcoming weekend when I will be out of town. I have a track record of making these types of “construction” projects more stressful than fun when I am involved, plus it is fun for me to get to see the final, assembled product when I get home.

Thanks, everyone, for the wonderful shower and gifts!

More baby bellies.

Yesterday I went to a wedding shower for these two lovebirds:

Zach’s little bro is getting married and we are just under 5 weeks away from the big day.

At the shower I got to see one of our friends – another Meg – who is expecting too. She is due 6 weeks before us with a girl and we are all excited for the two little ones to meet some day soon.

That’s all for now; we spent the rest of yesterday doing house and yard work and we have more to do today. Right now everyone but the pregnant lady is taking a nap so it may be a little difficult to get much done! Golfing, patrolling for squirrels, and kicking mama’s ribs has taken a lot out of the males in this household. It looks like I’ll be on my own this afternoon…

Belly Photo Friday!

Here we are at 29 weeks! It doesn’t seem possible that I am already in the third trimester.

Maybe this is when you know you are ready to be a parent; you can’t stop talking about how fast time goes by and how quickly children grow up. Some day I will be telling this little bump about the time he lived in my stomach and was like a nocturnal animal, having a little dance party when I laid down to sleep each night.

The little boy is the size of a squash this week, somewhere around 16 inches long and 3 pounds. The majority of his work now will be putting on some fat. I feel his little parts moving around in there, but they all feel like elbows or knees. I guess it could be a bony little behind without chubby baby fat yet. Keep on growing little boy!
